ALICE

ALICE is an acronym for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. The ALICE Initiative fuels systemic change for working families earning income above the federal poverty line but below what can support their household’s basic needs. This means hard-working, local families are making hard decisions every day, like paying for medical care or paying for groceries.

The vision of the ALICE Initiative is to create a thriving Hawaiʻi where every individual and family can enjoy generational prosperity while calling the beautiful Hawaiian Islands home.

In partnership with the Hawai’i Community Foundation (HCF), Aloha United Way funded 17 nonprofit agencies to increase financial stability and savings and generate access to safe and affordable housing for those below the ALICE threshold.

The work is not complete. 44% of all households in Hawaiʻi are at the ALICE Threshold or below. To have an impact, we need your help to continue delivering targeted programs and identifying those who would benefit from program utilization.
